Mini-walk for dog lovers- complement for the CURIOUS minds in Toronto (around Evergreen Brick Works)

Updated: Sep 22, 2020

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? An off-leash dog forest + mini-walk around Toronto’s best urban park. Two good reasons to get out of the house!

This Friday, I went to the beautiful Evergreen Brick Works with the "girls" (my friend Pascale and her dog Nala). As dogs must be on a leash in the large park, we chose to start the visit at the off-leash dog park of the site, in order to give Nala the chance to blow off some steam. What a great idea!

I had visited the Don Valley Brick Works Dog Park several years ago but did not remember is as such a beautiful! Actually, it's not a dog park, it's a forest! With trails and all!

The dog park is fully fenced. It is accessed from the parking lot to the left of Evergreen's entrance on Bayview Avenue. At the south end of the park, a gate opens onto a path that reaches the Beltline Trail.

We were charmed by the gravel trail that runs through the park in a 250-metre loop, which we redid several times to accommodate our little companion. It wasn't a big sacrifice! The path is lined with various bushes and large mature trees, each bend offering a different landscape. In short, it is a real little gem for Fido. "Woof," confirms Nala.

As we left the park, she didn’t mind being back on a leash. We continued our discovery of the place, starting with the path going up to the belvedere to admire a wonderful panorama of the city. We then explored the trails around the various ponds.

Note that Evergreen is quite quiet from Monday to Wednesday and the public restrooms are only open on weekends from 8am to 2pm. The Evergreen Shuttle is currently not in function and the children’s playground is closed. Saturday’s Farmers Market (8 am to 1 pm) and Sunday’s Artisan Market (10 am to 3 pm) are open but they only allow a maximum of 50 people on site at a time and mask is mandatory.

The Garden Market is open and so is the take-out counter of Café Belong. We can also eat at the patio of the gastronomical restaurant but one needs to reserve online.
